Professor Feng Xiaobo from Beijing Union University lectures on "Discovery, Research and Significance of Yunxian Man Site"

In order to explore the source of Chinese civilization, enhance cultural confidence and publicize the significance of the discovery of Yunyang Site, Professor Feng Xiaobo of Beijing Union University was invited by the School of History, Culture and Tourism to give a special lecture on "Discovery, Research and Significance of Yunxian Man Site" for students at C101 on the evening of November 13. Professor Feng has been appointed as a visiting professor of the College for a long time, Wang Zhenghua, former director of Yunyang Museum, was invited to attend. President Rao Jun presided over.

From his academic experience, Professor Feng vividly explained the discovery process of the three skulls of the archaeological "Yunxian Man", the excavation of various stone tools and the excavation methods of various animal fossils. He emphasized that in paleoanthropology, the discovery of Yunxian Man site not only adds new materials of human fossils, but also provides an important example for discussing the phylogenetic status and the evolution model of ancient human in China. In today's historical research, the discovery of Yunxian Man site has brought a brand new archaeological information platform for further excavation, and provided a good condition for searching for more historical materials and exploring related academic issues. Professor Feng introduced the specific arrangements for the next step of Yunxian archaeological work, and drew a new blueprint for the archaeological research and development of northwest Hubei: on the basis of protecting historical sites, we should vigorously build archaeological site parks, create characteristic cultural and creative products, and promote the integration of culture and tourism by using big data information means such as "cultural relics on the cloud". Finally, the students actively participated in the questions and answers, and Professor Feng patiently answered the relevant questions. Professor Feng was deeply moved by the students' enthusiasm for archaeological sites.

Dean Rao introduced that the cultivation of talents in the direction of archaeology and culture is the characteristic of the history major of the School, and Professor Feng will continue to teach students of the school in the future to help the development of the history major of the school. In this lecture, the students not only learned that archaeology is not only a job, but also a kind of faith inheritance in Chinese culture.
